The heliport was officially and permanently excluded from the national aviation registry on June 21, 2017. This action was formalized by Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) through ordinance Portaria NÂş 1834/SIA. The actual cessation of flight operations may have occurred prior to this administrative date.
The closure was voluntary. According to the official ANAC ordinance, the heliport was de-registered 'a pedido do proprietĂĄrio', which translates to 'at the owner's request'. This indicates the owner of the building or heliport made a deliberate decision to cease operations, rather than it being a result of an accident, regulatory non-compliance, or direct economic failure.
The physical helipad structure, including the landing circle and markings, remains visible on the roof of the EdifĂcio AcrĂłpole at Av. Nossa Sra. do Carmo, 1650. However, it is legally defunct and cannot be used for any aircraft landings or takeoffs. The site is simply the rooftop of an active commercial and/or residential building, with the former heliport area now unused for its original aviation purpose.
Roberta Lombardi Heliport was a private rooftop heliport located atop the EdifĂcio AcrĂłpole in the affluent Sion neighborhood of Belo Horizonte. Its operations were exclusive and not open to the public. The primary purpose was to serve as a point of convenience for corporate executives or high-net-worth individuals, allowing them to travel directly to and from the building, bypassing the city's often congested ground traffic. Its historical significance is tied to the era of corporate and private aviation growth in Brazil's major cities, serving as a private infrastructure asset for the building's tenants or owners.
There are no known plans or public discussions regarding the reopening of the Roberta Lombardi Heliport. Since the closure was initiated by the owner, any initiative to reopen would have to come from them and would require a completely new and rigorous certification process with ANAC to meet current safety and operational standards. Given the trend of increasing restrictions on urban heliports due to noise and safety concerns, a reopening is considered highly unlikely.
