Guaporé Airport

The primary reason for the closure was the failure to meet minimum operational safety standards required by ANAC. This was a result of prolonged lack of investment and maintenance, leading to significant deterioration of the infrastructure. Specific issues included a poorly maintained runway, inadequate fencing to prevent incursions, and a lack of proper signaling. Additionally, urban growth and encroachment around the airport perimeter made it increasingly difficult and unsafe to operate.

The airport site has been completely repurposed and no longer exists as an aviation facility. In 2018, the state government officially donated the land to the municipality of Guaporé. The area has since been redeveloped into the 'Distrito Industrial II de Guaporé' (Industrial District II). The former runway has been converted into a paved street serving the new industrial lots. A significant portion of the old runway and taxiway area is now occupied by the 'Kartódromo de Guaporé', a popular go-kart racing track.

Guaporé Airport (SSGQ) was a significant regional asset, primarily serving general aviation. Its main operations included:
- **Business Aviation:** It was crucial for business travel, especially for executives and clients related to Guaporé's renowned jewelry and lingerie industries, providing a vital link to larger economic centers.
- **Air Taxi Services:** It served as a base and destination for on-demand air taxi flights.
- **Aeromedical Transport:** The airport was used for emergency medical evacuation flights, providing critical life-saving transport for the local population.
- **Agricultural Aviation:** It supported local agriculture through crop-dusting and other aerial application services.
While it never hosted regular scheduled commercial airline flights, it was an important piece of infrastructure that supported the local economy and provided essential services for decades.

There are no plans or prospects for reopening the original Guaporé Airport (SSGQ). The complete redevelopment of the site into an industrial park and a go-kart track makes its revival as an airport impossible. However, due to the economic needs of the city, local business leaders and politicians have been actively advocating for the construction of a new airport in a different, more suitable location. These discussions are in the preliminary stages, focusing on identifying a potential site and securing political and financial support from state and federal governments. As of now, no concrete project, timeline, or funding has been established for a new airport.
