The exact date of closure is not officially recorded, as it was a private facility. However, it was likely decommissioned and removed from aviation authority (ANAC) registries in the mid-to-late 2010s. This timeframe coincides with the massive construction boom of super-tall skyscrapers in the surrounding area.
The heliport was closed primarily due to safety concerns and regulatory non-compliance caused by urban development. The rapid construction of much taller residential towers, such as the Infinity Coast and Epic Tower, in the immediate vicinity obstructed the heliport's approach and departure paths. This new, dense high-rise environment created unsafe wind patterns and made it impossible for the heliport to meet the required safety clearance zones for flight operations.
The site is the rooftop of the Edifício Parthenon residential building at Avenida Atlântica, 4440, in the Barra Sul neighborhood. Satellite imagery confirms that the physical structure of the helipad, including the landing circle and 'H' marking, still exists on the roof. However, it is completely inactive and no longer certified for aviation use. The space is now simply a non-operational part of the building's roof structure.
Viana III Heliport was a private heliport located on the rooftop of the 'Edifício Parthenon', a luxury residential building developed by Viana's Empreendimentos Imobiliários Ltda. Its purpose was to provide an exclusive amenity for the building's affluent residents, allowing for private and corporate helicopter travel. In its time, it was a symbol of the luxury and exclusivity that defined Balneário Camboriú's high-end real estate market, offering a way to bypass traffic and travel quickly to regional destinations.
There are zero prospects for the reopening of the Viana III Heliport. The reasons for its closure—namely the permanent and massive building obstructions—are irreversible. It would be impossible to re-certify the heliport under current aviation safety standards (ANAC RBAC 155). Any new heliport in the area must be designed and integrated into new constructions that account for the existing urban canyon environment.
