Approximately between 2015 and 2018. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was clearly defined and appeared operational in 2014. By 2018, the strip was significantly overgrown with vegetation, indicating it fell into disuse and was abandoned during this period.
The airport was a private airstrip (aerĂłdromo privado) serving the Fazenda Vista Alegre (Vista Alegre Farm). The closure was most likely due to economic factors. Common reasons for the closure of such private airfields in Brazil include the high cost of maintenance relative to its utility, a change in the farm's ownership or operational strategy, or improved road access to the area, making air transport less critical. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed for military conversion or due to a specific accident.
The airport is permanently closed and non-operational. The site of the former 1000-meter unpaved runway is completely reclaimed by nature, heavily overgrown with grass and shrubs, and is indistinguishable from the surrounding pasture land. The land has reverted to its agricultural use as part of the Fazenda Vista Alegre.
The airport's significance was purely local and private. It served as a transportation link for the Fazenda Vista Alegre in a relatively remote agricultural area of Bujari. When active, it would have handled small, single-engine general aviation aircraft (e.g., Cessna 206, Piper PA-28) typical of bush flying. These operations were essential for transporting the farm's owners, managers, workers, and light cargo or urgent supplies, connecting the remote property to urban centers like Rio Branco more efficiently than by ground.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Fazenda Vista Alegre Airport. Reinstating the airport would be a private initiative requiring significant investment from the property owner to clear the land, regrade the runway surface, and undergo the inspection and certification process with Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). Given its state of abandonment, the prospect of reopening is considered extremely low.
