February 22, 2017. The airport, officially registered with the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) under the ICAO code SSRI, was formally removed from the national registry by Ordinance Nº 384/SIA on this date. The identifier BR-2096 was an unofficial code used in some non-governmental databases.
The airport was closed at the explicit request of its private owner. As a private airfield ('aeródromo privado'), its continued operation was contingent on the owner's needs and their decision to maintain its registration and operational standards with ANAC. The closure was not due to an accident or military conversion, but rather a private administrative decision.
The site remains part of the agricultural property. Satellite imagery confirms the physical runway is still visible as a dirt/grass strip. However, it is unmaintained, overgrown, and clearly no longer in use for aviation. The surrounding land is actively cultivated with crops. The runway area has not been developed or built upon, but it has reverted to a simple farm track or fallow land.
Fazenda Reserva Airport was a private airstrip located on and serving a large agricultural estate ('fazenda') in the municipality of Reserva do Iguaçu, a major agribusiness region in the state of Paraná. Its primary function was to support the farm's operations. This included facilitating agricultural aviation (such as crop dusting, seeding, and aerial surveying) and providing private air transport for the farm's owners, managers, and visitors. Its significance was entirely local and logistical, crucial for the efficiency of the large-scale farming operation it served. It never handled commercial, scheduled, or public flights.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Since it was a private facility closed by its owner, any initiative to reopen would have to come from the current landowner. This would require a completely new and rigorous registration and certification process with ANAC. Given that it was deliberately closed, the likelihood of it being reopened is considered extremely low to nonexistent.
