Fazenda Thoma Airport

The airport was a private airstrip, and its closure was likely due to private economic and operational decisions by the owner of the fazenda (farm/ranch) it served. Common reasons for such closures include the owner ceasing to operate aircraft, the high cost of maintenance, the sale of the property, or the determination that the nearby Nova Andradina Municipal Airport (ICAO: SSNB) was sufficient for any aviation needs. The land was subsequently reclaimed for more profitable agricultural purposes.

The airport is permanently closed and no longer exists as an aviation facility. The site of the former 800-meter grass runway has been fully reclaimed and integrated into the surrounding farmland. Satellite imagery shows the area is now used for agriculture, likely for cattle grazing or crop cultivation (such as sugarcane or soy), with only a very faint outline of the former runway visible from the air.

Fazenda Thoma Airport was a private aerodrome whose significance was entirely local. Its primary function was to provide direct air access for the owners, staff, and visitors of the large agricultural property known as 'Fazenda Thoma'. Operations would have consisted of general aviation flights using small, single-engine aircraft for personal and business transportation. It may have also supported agricultural aviation (ag-av) activities like crop dusting, which is vital in this farming region of Mato Grosso do Sul. It did not serve commercial passengers or public cargo.

There are zero known plans or prospects for reopening Fazenda Thoma Airport. The existence of the publicly-owned and better-equipped Nova Andradina Municipal Airport (SSNB), located just 15 km to the northeast with a paved runway, makes the reopening of a small, private grass strip redundant and economically unviable. The land has been fully repurposed by its private owner for agriculture, and re-establishing an airport would require significant private investment with no clear demand.
