The site is the rooftop of the still-active Tribunal de Contas do Estado da Bahia building. The Sylvio Quadros Mercês Heliport (registered with the ICAO-style designator SIYQ) was a private, rooftop heliport located at the headquarters of the Tribunal de Contas do Estado da Bahia (State Court of Accounts). It was named in honor of a former president of the court. Its primary function was to provide secure and rapid transportation for high-level government officials, such as court counselors, the state governor, and visiting dignitaries, allowing them to bypass traffic congestion to and from the Centro Administrativo da Bahia (CAB), a major hub of state government buildings.
