The airport was officially and permanently closed on May 13, 2016. This was formalized by the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) through Ordinance (Portaria) Nº 1113/SIA, dated May 11, 2016.
The closure was executed 'a pedido do proprietário,' which translates to 'at the owner's request.' This indicates a private decision by the landowner, likely for economic or operational reasons, such as the cessation of aviation activities related to the farm or a desire to repurpose the land. It was not closed due to an accident, regulatory action, or military conversion.
The site of the former airport has been fully reclaimed for agricultural use. Satellite imagery of the coordinates shows no trace of the runway or any airport infrastructure like hangars. The land where the runway once existed is now part of the surrounding cultivated fields, appearing to be used for growing crops, most likely sugarcane, which is prevalent in the region. The airport is physically non-existent.
Fazenda Perobal Airport, officially registered with ANAC as SIZX (the ICAO code BR-2012 is a non-official, database-specific identifier), was a private aerodrome. Its primary purpose was to serve the agricultural and logistical needs of the 'Fazenda Perobal,' the farm on which it was located. Operations were typical for a rural airstrip in Brazil, consisting mainly of general aviation and agricultural aviation. This would have included small propeller aircraft used for crop dusting, transportation of personnel and supplies, and private travel for the farm's owners and staff. The aerodrome featured a single unpaved (dirt/grass) runway with dimensions of 800 meters by 25 meters.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Given that the closure was a deliberate act by the owner and the land has since been completely converted back to productive farmland, the likelihood of it being re-established as an aerodrome is extremely low to none. Reopening would require a significant investment to reconstruct the runway from scratch and a new, lengthy approval process with ANAC.
