The exact date of official closure is not publicly documented. However, the heliport likely fell into disuse between 2018 and 2022, coinciding with the parent company's escalating financial problems. It was officially removed from the Brazilian aviation authority (ANAC) registry, likely around the time Avibrás entered judicial recovery in 2022.
The closure was a direct result of economic reasons. The owner and operator, Avibrás Indústria Aeroespacial, has been facing a severe financial crisis since the late 2010s, culminating in filing for 'recuperação judicial' (a form of bankruptcy protection) in 2022. The closure of the heliport was a cost-cutting measure to reduce operational and maintenance expenses for non-essential infrastructure during this period of financial restructuring.
The site of the former heliport is now an open, paved area within the active Avibrás industrial plant. Satellite imagery shows the faint, faded markings of the helipad 'H' on the asphalt. The area appears to be repurposed for general industrial use, such as vehicle parking or temporary material staging. It is no longer maintained or used for any aviation activities.
Avibrás II Heliport was a private facility located within the main industrial complex of Avibrás in Jacareí. Avibrás is one of Brazil's most significant defense and technology companies, known for developing rocket systems (like the ASTROS), missiles, and other advanced military hardware. The heliport's primary function was to support corporate logistics, providing a landing spot for helicopters transporting executives, VIP clients, government officials, and potentially for the urgent transit of small, high-value components or specialized personnel. Its existence was a symbol of the company's operational capacity and prestige during its more prosperous periods.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The parent company, Avibrás, remains in a state of judicial recovery and is focused on financial survival, debt restructuring, and fulfilling major contracts. Reinstating a private corporate heliport is not a priority and would only be considered if the company achieves a complete and robust financial turnaround, which is not anticipated in the near future.
