Circa early 2021
Economic and corporate restructuring. The heliport was located on the SulAmérica national headquarters building. In a deal concluded in early 2021, the company sold the entire office complex to the VBI Prime Properties (PVBI11) real estate investment fund. Following the sale of the property, the heliport was decommissioned and its registration with Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) was cancelled.
The site is a multi-building corporate office complex located at Rua Doutor Rubens Gomes Bueno, 691. The property is now owned by the VBI Prime Properties real estate fund and is leased to multiple tenants. SulAmérica remains in the complex as a major tenant under a sale-and-leaseback agreement. The physical helipad structure on the roof of the main building likely still exists, but it is no longer an active, certified aerodrome and cannot be used for landings or takeoffs.
The heliport's official ICAO designator was SJLJ (the code BR-1996 appears to be a non-official, database-specific identifier). It was a private facility located atop the headquarters of SulAmérica, one of Brazil's largest and oldest insurance companies. Its sole purpose was to handle corporate and executive helicopter operations. For decades, it served as a critical transportation asset, allowing company directors, executives, and important clients to bypass São Paulo's chronic traffic congestion. Its existence was a symbol of corporate power and logistical efficiency in Brazil's primary economic hub.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. Given that the building is now owned by a real estate investment fund and houses multiple tenants, reactivating a private heliport would present significant logistical, liability, and regulatory challenges. It is highly improbable that the heliport will be brought back into service.
