January 16, 2017. The aerodrome was officially and permanently closed by the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) through Ordinance (Portaria) Nº 105/SIA, published in the nation's official gazette on January 18, 2017.
The airport was closed voluntarily at the request of its owner ('a pedido do interessado'), as documented in the official ANAC ordinance. This type of closure for a private airstrip is typically driven by economic factors, such as the high cost of maintenance and regulatory compliance, a change in farm ownership, or the owner no longer having a need for aviation operations.
The site is no longer a registered or operational aerodrome. Recent satellite imagery shows the former unpaved (dirt or grass) runway is unmaintained, overgrown, and is being reclaimed by the surrounding agricultural landscape. The land has reverted to farming use, and the airstrip is effectively abandoned.
The facility, officially registered as Aeródromo Aliança with the ICAO code SJWN (the 'BR-1968' identifier is an unofficial code used by some third-party databases), was a private airstrip. It exclusively served the logistical needs of the Fazenda Aliança (Alliance Farm) on which it was located. Its operations were typical for large agricultural properties in Brazil, handling small general aviation aircraft for purposes such as crop dusting, executive transport for the farm's owners and managers, and the movement of specialized supplies or personnel. Its significance was purely private and utilitarian, supporting the region's agribusiness.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Since it was a private facility closed at the owner's request, any initiative to reopen it would have to come from the landowner. This would require a significant investment to meet current standards and undergo a new, complete certification and registration process with ANAC. Currently, the prospect of reopening appears to be nonexistent.
