São Raimundo Nonato Airport

Replacement by a modern facility and economic development. The primary reason for closure was the construction and opening of the new, much larger Serra da Capivara Airport. The old airfield (BR-1950) was a small aerodrome with a short, unpaved runway and no significant infrastructure. It was inadequate for handling commercial passenger jets and could not support the Brazilian government's goal of boosting tourism to the nearby Serra da Capivara National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The new airport was a strategic investment to facilitate tourism and economic growth in the region, making the old one redundant.

The site is completely decommissioned and abandoned for aviation use. Satellite imagery of the coordinates shows the faint outline of the former dirt runway, which is now being encroached upon by the urban expansion of São Raimundo Nonato. The land is adjacent to residential areas and is gradually being integrated into the city's fabric. There is no remaining aviation infrastructure on the site.

The old São Raimundo Nonato Airport was a small, local aerodrome that served as the primary air link to a very remote part of the state of Piauí for many years. Its operations were limited to general aviation, handling small propeller-driven aircraft, air taxis, and occasional government or medical emergency flights. Due to its unpaved runway and minimal facilities, it never hosted scheduled commercial airline services. Its main significance was providing basic air access for a community that was otherwise difficult to reach.

None. There are absolutely no plans or prospects for reopening this former airfield. All air traffic and future aviation investments for the region are focused on the new and fully operational Serra da Capivara Airport (SWKQ). The location of the old strip, now surrounded by urban development, makes its reactivation both impractical and unsafe.
