The airport was officially and permanently closed in January 2017. The closure was formalized by Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) through ordinance 'PORTARIA Nº 103/SIA', dated January 12, 2017, and published in the nation's official gazette on January 16, 2017.
The airport was closed at the request of its owner. As a private aerodrome, the decision to cease operations and request its exclusion from the official ANAC registry was a private, administrative one. There is no evidence to suggest the closure was due to economic failure, a specific accident, or conversion for military or public use.
The site is part of the private agricultural property of Fazenda Alamo. Satellite imagery confirms the land is actively used for agriculture, consistent with the surrounding area which is dominated by sugarcane plantations. The outline of the former 1000-meter runway is still clearly visible as a dirt track, but it is no longer maintained for aviation purposes and appears to be used as a farm road or is simply fallow land.
Fazenda Alamo Airport was a private aerodrome registered with ANAC under the official designator SIAL (the identifier BR-1937 is a non-official code used by some third-party databases). Its sole purpose was to serve the general aviation needs of the owner of the 'Fazenda Alamo' (Alamo Farm). Operations were limited to small, private aircraft, likely single-engine or light twin-engine models, used for personal and business transportation. The airfield featured a single unpaved (grass/dirt) runway (10/28) approximately 1000 meters (3281 feet) in length. It held no public, commercial, or military significance and was not open to the public.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Since it was a private facility closed by its owner, any initiative to reopen it would have to come from the current landowner, who would need to begin a new, complex registration and certification process with ANAC. Given that it was deliberately de-registered, a reopening is considered highly unlikely.
