Circa 2012. The airport was officially decommissioned and closed following the construction and inauguration of the new Iporá Airport (ICAO: SWIP) in July 2012. Operations were transferred from the old site to the new facility.
The primary reason for closure was urban encroachment and the resulting safety concerns. The airport was located within the city's expanding urban perimeter, which posed a significant risk to the surrounding residential and commercial areas. Its location also prevented any potential expansion of the runway or facilities to meet modern safety standards. The construction of a new, more modern airport in a safer location outside the city was the definitive solution.
The airport site has been completely decommissioned and redeveloped. The land has been fully integrated into the urban grid of Iporá. The former runway and airport grounds are no longer recognizable and are now occupied by new streets, residential housing, commercial lots, and a large municipal covered market known as the 'Feirão Coberto de Iporá'.
For decades, this airfield was the main air access point for the municipality of Iporá and the surrounding agricultural region of Goiás. It primarily handled general aviation traffic, including private aircraft, air taxi services for business and passenger transport, emergency medical flights, and agricultural aviation (crop dusting), which is essential for the local agribusiness economy. It played a vital role in the economic development and connectivity of the region before the city grew to surround it.
There are zero prospects for reopening this airport. The site has been permanently and physically repurposed for urban development. All aviation needs for the city of Iporá are now served by the new and fully operational Aeroporto de Iporá (ICAO: SWIP), which is located a few kilometers outside the city center.
