Poço Branco Airport

No single official reason for closure has been published, as is common for small, informal airstrips. The closure was almost certainly due to economic factors, including: a lack of demand for local air services, the high cost of maintenance for an unpaved runway, and improved ground transportation (road networks) connecting Poço Branco to the state capital, Natal. The airport was a basic facility that likely outlived its usefulness.

The site is completely abandoned and non-operational. Current satellite imagery clearly shows the remnants of a single dirt runway, which is heavily overgrown with vegetation, eroded, and bisected by informal vehicle tracks. There is no remaining aviation infrastructure such as hangars, a terminal, or lighting. The land is effectively being reclaimed by the surrounding agricultural and natural environment and is used informally as a local path.

The airport, more accurately a simple unpaved airstrip (aeródromo), held only local significance. The identifier 'BR-1445' is a non-standard code used by third-party data aggregators and is not an official ICAO or Brazilian ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency) designation. Its operations were limited to general aviation, likely consisting of small, single-engine propeller aircraft. Its primary functions would have been to support air taxi services, private flights for local landowners or businesses, and potentially agricultural aviation (crop dusting) for the surrounding rural area. It provided a basic air link for the community before modern infrastructure rendered it obsolete.

There are no known or published plans, proposals, or prospects for reopening the Poço Branco airstrip. The economic case for rehabilitating and operating the facility is extremely weak, given the small size of the municipality and its relative proximity to the major Aluízio Alves International Airport (SBSG/NAT) in São Gonçalo do Amarante, which serves the greater Natal region. The prospects for reopening are considered non-existent.
