Upernavik Airport (JUV) is a vital air transport hub for the Upernavik Archipelago in northwestern Greenland. As a STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) airport, it provides an essential year-round connection for residents, supplies, and services in a region where sea ice limits marine transport for much of the year. The airport serves the town of Upernavik and functions as a critical transfer point for numerous smaller settlements scattered throughout the archipelago.

Due to the compact size of the community, the airport is easily accessible. Most travelers can reach it via a short walk or a brief taxi ride, which can be arranged in advance. The facility is positioned on an elevated plateau, offering distinct views of the surrounding landscape and Davis Strait.

All scheduled flights are domestic and operated exclusively by Air Greenland. The airport facilitates two primary types of operations: fixed-wing aircraft, typically De Havilland Canada Dash-8 planes, connect Upernavik with larger regional airports such as Ilulissat Airport and Qaanaaq Airport. Additionally, the airport serves as a heliport, with Bell 212 helicopters providing essential services to the smaller island and coastal settlements within the archipelago. There are no international flights.

The facilities at Upernavik Airport are basic and functional, reflecting its remote location and the nature of its traffic. The terminal consists of a single small building containing a check-in counter, a modest waiting area, and restrooms. Travelers should not expect amenities such as restaurants, cafes, or retail shops within the terminal and should plan to bring any necessary provisions with them.

For those traveling through Upernavik, it is advisable to arrive at the airport approximately one hour before departure. Given the unpredictable Arctic weather, flight delays and cancellations can occur with little notice; travelers should monitor their flight status closely and maintain flexible schedules.
