Approximately 2017
The airfield was a private venture created and operated by Mr. Jean-Pol Lejeune. It reportedly ceased operations following his death. As the airfield's existence was tied directly to its founder, there was no succession plan to continue flight activities, leading to its closure.
The site has reverted to private land. Current satellite imagery shows that the outline of the grass runway is still visible, but it is no longer maintained as an active airfield. The land appears to be used for agricultural purposes or as a simple mowed field. The hangar associated with the airfield is still standing, but there are no signs of any ongoing aviation activity.
Mogimont Ultralight Airfield, also known as 'Base ULM de Mogimont', was a private airfield dedicated to ultralight (ULM/microlight) aircraft. It was a key site for the local recreational flying community in the Belgian Ardennes. The airfield consisted of a single grass runway (oriented approximately 06/24) and a small hangar. Its significance lay in its role as a grassroots aviation facility, reflecting the passion of a private individual and serving as a hub for local pilots and enthusiasts, rather than for commercial or military purposes.
There are no known public plans or prospects for reopening the Mogimont Ultralight Airfield. Given that it was a private field tied to a specific individual, its revival would require a new owner to purchase the land and undergo the complex process of re-certification with Belgian aviation authorities. There is currently no indication of such an initiative.
