Taxis are available outside the arrivals area of both the international and domestic terminals. It is strongly recommended to use a reputable, hotel-arranged, or airport-sanctioned taxi service. Fares are typically negotiated and agreed upon before the trip, as meters are not consistently used.
Several car rental companies, including Avis, Hertz, and Thrifty, have service desks located within the international terminal's arrivals hall. Pre-booking is advisable. An international driving permit is often required along with a valid driver's license. Drivers should be cautious as road conditions and security can be challenging in Port Moresby.
There is no direct, scheduled public bus or train service from the airport terminal. The local Public Motor Vehicles (PMVs) operate on main roads nearby but are generally not recommended for visitors due to safety concerns and unpredictable schedules. The most common and secure alternative is a pre-arranged shuttle service provided by most major hotels for their guests.
A reasonable international terminal but nothing to rave on about. Duty Free can be more expensive than buying locally! Customs can be cramped upon arrival and offers little assistance for passengers with disabilities. Once through the humidity hits you! A great nation which I have had involvement with or have lived in for over 40 years.
Good airport, but avoid the city.
