Ocean Park Airstrip

Land use conversion for conservation. The airstrip was located on what was formerly Peron Station, a large pastoral sheep station. When the land was converted into the protected Francois Peron National Park, non-essential infrastructure like the private airstrip was closed as it was incompatible with the park's environmental and conservation objectives.

The site is now an integrated part of the Francois Peron National Park. The physical runway is no longer maintained and is being reclaimed by native vegetation, though its faint outline is still visible in satellite imagery. The area is managed for conservation and is accessible to tourists via four-wheel-drive tracks for nature-based recreation. It serves no aviation purpose.

The airstrip's primary function was to support the remote operations of Peron Station. It was crucial for transporting station personnel, urgent supplies, mail, and providing access for essential services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). It may have also been used by private charter flights for early tourism initiatives in the area before the national park was established. Its significance was local, providing a vital link for the isolated pastoral community.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airstrip. Its location within a highly protected National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site makes any potential redevelopment for aviation purposes extremely unlikely due to stringent environmental regulations and conservation priorities. Air access to the Shark Bay region is provided by the official Shark Bay Airport (IATA: MJK, ICAO: YSHK) near Denham.
