The exact closure date is not publicly documented. Based on analysis of historical satellite imagery and the lack of official records, the airstrip likely ceased operations sometime in the late 20th or early 21st century. It has been defunct for many years.
As a small, private airstrip, the specific reason for closure is not officially recorded. The most probable reasons include the sale of the property to a non-aviator, the owner ceasing flying activities due to age or cost, or the land being repurposed for more profitable agricultural use. There is no evidence of closure due to a major accident, military conversion, or regulatory action.
The site has been fully returned to agricultural land. Current satellite imagery shows the area as a farm paddock, likely used for grazing or cropping. While a faint, straight scar in the landscape is still visible where the runway once lay, all aviation infrastructure such as hangars, markings, or windsock bases have been removed. The land is indistinguishable from the surrounding farmland.
Meredith Airport was a small, private Aeroplane Landing Area (ALA). The ICAO code 'AU-0671' is an unofficial identifier used by non-governmental aviation databases to catalog such minor airfields; it never held an official ICAO designation from Airservices Australia. Its operations would have been limited to light general aviation aircraft, serving primarily the property's owner for recreational or personal transport purposes. It may have also been used occasionally by other local pilots or for agricultural aviation (crop dusting). It had no role in commercial, scheduled, or significant military operations and held no major historical significance beyond its local, private use.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Meredith Airport. The land is privately owned and has been integrated back into a working farm. Re-establishing an airstrip would require significant investment and regulatory approval, for which there is no apparent demand or economic incentive. Its reopening is considered extremely unlikely.
There is no such thing as Meredith Airport. The proper name should be Lethbridge Airpark, Lethbridge, Victoria. Some how this information has been misleading Google Maps to have their place label wrongly for Lethbridge Airpark. This causes great grief for Mr. Baum, the owner of Lethbridge Airpark and to the members of Geelong Sports Aviators (aero club) who uses Google Maps.
Can someone of this website delete any reference of Meredith Airport please? We will thank you dearly.
