Fleurs Aerodrome

The primary reason for closure was land acquisition for a major infrastructure project. The aerodrome was located directly on the site designated for the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. The Australian Government compulsorily acquired the land, forcing the closure and subsequent demolition of the airfield to make way for the new airport's construction.

The site of the former Fleurs Aerodrome no longer exists in its original form. It has been completely cleared, leveled, and integrated into the massive construction site of the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (IATA: WSI, ICAO: YSWD). The coordinates for the old aerodrome now fall within the footprint of the new international airport's runways, taxiways, and terminal infrastructure.

Fleurs Aerodrome was a privately owned and operated airfield that was highly significant to the general aviation community in Western Sydney. For decades, it served as a hub for recreational pilots, flight training, and light aircraft enthusiasts. Owned by the Medich family, it featured a grass runway and basic facilities, embodying the character of a small, local airstrip. It provided a crucial, accessible facility for private pilots in a region where such airfields were becoming increasingly rare due to urban expansion.
