Geelong Airport, AU.
Geelong Airport (IATA: GEX, ICAO: YGLG), located in Mount Duneed, Victoria, Australia, was a small airfield primarily used for scenic flights and private aircraft. It officially closed on December 31, 2011, after being sold to property developers for urban expansion.
Historically, the airport had two gravel/tarmac runways and was used for recording wind and weather measurements. Commercial airlines had previously attempted to operate services from Geelong but ultimately chose the more developed Avalon Airport, which also proved unsuccessful for them.
Following its closure and redevelopment, only the former office building and a hangar remained. The office building was damaged beyond repair by a suspicious fire in September 2022 and subsequently demolished, while the hangar has been retained for future use. The site is no longer operational as an airport.
