Late September 2012. The operating club, Fliegerclub Cumulus, officially ceased flight operations on September 30, 2012.
The primary reason for the closure was the non-renewal of the land lease agreement by the landowner, the influential EsterhĂĄzy Foundation (Stiftung EsterhĂĄzy). The foundation decided to reclaim the land for agricultural purposes (renaturation and farming). The decision was also reportedly influenced by long-standing noise complaints from residents of the surrounding communities and the local municipality.
The airport is permanently closed and has been dismantled. The land has been returned to agricultural use, as intended by the landowner. Satellite imagery of the coordinates confirms that the former grass runway has been plowed over and is now indistinguishable from the surrounding farmland. While some of the original buildings, such as the hangar and clubhouse, may still be physically present on the site's periphery, all aviation infrastructure has been removed.
Trausdorf Airport, which also used the ICAO code LOAT, was a private general aviation airfield. For over 30 years (since the early 1980s), it served as the home base for the 'Fliegerclub Cumulus'. Its operations were focused on recreational and sport aviation, primarily for ultralight aircraft, motor gliders, and other light aircraft. It was a significant local hub for private pilots in the Burgenland region but had no scheduled commercial or military operations.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Trausdorf Airport. The definitive conversion of the land back to agriculture, combined with the firm position of the landowner and the historical opposition from the local community, makes any future reopening extremely unlikely.
