Circa April 1971
Functional Replacement
The site was not fully closed or abandoned. Instead, it was repurposed and continues to operate as an active general aviation airfield. It is the current home of the 'Aeroclub Chaco'. The facility supports private aircraft, flight training schools, air taxi services, and recreational aviation. While it is closed to major commercial airline traffic, it remains a functioning and important aviation hub for the local community.
This airfield, now home to the Aero Club Chaco, was the original and primary airport for the city of Resistencia before the construction of the current international airport. It handled all commercial, general, and military aviation for the region. Early commercial flights operated by AerolĂneas Argentinas and other carriers used this facility with piston-engine aircraft like the DC-3 and DC-4. It was the gateway to the Chaco province by air for several decades and was instrumental in the development of local aviation, serving as the base for pilot training and recreational flying through the Aero Club.
There are no plans or prospects for this airport to reopen for commercial airline services. Its role as the primary airport for Resistencia was permanently transferred to the Resistencia International Airport (IATA: RES, ICAO: SARE), which was inaugurated in 1971. The current airfield is geographically constrained by urban growth and its infrastructure is suited only for general aviation. It will continue to operate in its current capacity as the Aero Club Chaco.
