The exact closure date is not officially documented, as is common for small, private airstrips. Analysis of historical satellite imagery indicates that the airstrip was in a usable condition in the early 2000s but shows a gradual decline in maintenance and use throughout the 2010s. It was likely officially de-registered or simply abandoned sometime in that decade.
The closure was almost certainly due to economic and operational reasons. As a private airstrip serving a large agricultural estate (estancia), its operation was dependent on the owner's need and financial ability to maintain it. Common reasons for the closure of such airstrips include: the sale of the property to a new owner without an aircraft, the high cost of maintenance, the owner ceasing to fly, or the improvement of local ground transportation rendering the airstrip obsolete for its original purpose. There is no evidence to suggest closure due to a major accident, military conversion, or urban encroachment.
The site is completely decommissioned and has reverted to agricultural land. Recent satellite imagery shows the faint, overgrown outline of the former grass and dirt runway. The area is now indistinguishable from the surrounding fields and is used for farming or as a simple track for farm vehicles. There are no remaining aviation facilities, such as hangars or markings, and the strip is entirely unsuitable for aircraft operations.
The airport's significance was purely local and private. It served as a vital piece of infrastructure for the agricultural ranch on which it was located, providing rapid access to a remote rural area. Operations would have consisted of light general aviation aircraft. Its primary functions would have been: transporting the property owner, managers, and workers; flying in urgent supplies, spare parts, and mail; and potentially supporting light agricultural aviation activities like aerial surveying. It had no public access, commercial flights, or military importance.
There are no known or published plans to reopen this airstrip. A reopening is highly improbable. As a private asset, its restoration would be entirely at the discretion and expense of the current landowner. This would require a renewed need for private air access, significant investment to clear, level, and restore the runway, and the process of re-registering the airfield with Argentina's National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC). Given that it was likely closed for economic reasons, a reversal of those conditions is unlikely.
