Guatraché Airport

The closure was primarily due to economic reasons. The airport was operated by the local 'Aeroclub Guatraché'. Like many small flying clubs in rural Argentina, it faced insurmountable financial challenges, including the high costs of aircraft maintenance, fuel, insurance, and a declining active membership. This led to a gradual cessation of flight operations until the airfield became completely inactive.

The physical airfield is defunct. The two grass runways are unmaintained, overgrown, and unusable for any aviation purposes. Recent satellite imagery shows vehicle tracks, indicating the land may be used for informal transit or light agricultural access. The associated buildings, such as the clubhouse and hangars, are still standing. The 'Aeroclub Guatraché' has been revived as a social entity, and its facilities are now used as a venue for community events, social gatherings, and a restaurant/bar, completely separate from any aviation activity.

The airport was the home of the Aeroclub Guatraché, founded in 1957. For over 50 years, it was a center for general aviation in the region. Its primary operations included:
- **Pilot Training:** Providing flight instruction for local aspiring pilots.
- **Recreational Flying:** Serving members of the aeroclub for leisure flights.
- **Agricultural Aviation:** Supporting the local agricultural economy, a vital industry in La Pampa province, with services like crop dusting and aerial surveying.
- **Social Hub:** The aeroclub and its facilities served as an important social and community gathering place for the town of Guatraché.

There are no known official plans or credible prospects for reopening Guatraché Airport for flight operations. The focus of the revived Aeroclub is on its social function rather than aviation. Reinstating the airfield would require significant capital investment to restore the runways, inspect the facilities, and acquire aircraft, which is considered financially unviable given the economic conditions that led to its initial closure.
