Approximately 2016. Satellite imagery shows the airport was still intact in 2015 but significant redevelopment of the land for a housing project was underway by 2017.
Urban encroachment and economic reasons. The land occupied by the airport became highly valuable as the surrounding cities of Río Segundo and Pilar expanded. The site was sold to real estate developers to build a new residential neighborhood, making continued aviation operations impossible.
The site has been completely redeveloped. The runways, hangars, and all airport infrastructure have been demolished and replaced by a residential housing development. In a nod to its history, the new neighborhood is named 'Barrio Aero Club'.
The airport was the historic home of the 'Aero Club Río Segundo', which was founded in 1947. Named after Carlos Saqui, a founding member and pilot, the airfield served as the primary center for general aviation, flight instruction, and recreational flying for the community for nearly 70 years. It played a vital role in local aviation history and training numerous pilots.
None. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted to residential use. The former operator, Aero Club Río Segundo, has successfully relocated its operations to the Coronel Olmedo Aerodrome (SACD), eliminating any need or possibility of reopening the Carlos Saqui Airport site.
