Approximately June 1999
Military abandonment. The airfield was a reserve military base for the Yugoslav Air Force (JRV i PVO). It became defunct following the end of the Kosovo War and the withdrawal of Yugoslav military forces from Kosovo after the Kumanovo Agreement in June 1999.
The site is completely defunct as an airport and has reverted to nature and agriculture. The outline of the former runway is still clearly visible from satellite imagery, but the surface is overgrown with grass and is being used as farmland and pasture by local residents. There is no remaining aviation infrastructure, such as hangars, a control tower, or terminal buildings, on the site.
The site was known as Golesh Airfield (or Slatina-B), a reserve or 'dispersal' airstrip. Its primary strategic purpose was to serve as a backup for the main Slatina Air Base (now Pristina International Airport 'Adem Jashari'). In the event of war, military aircraft, likely including fighter jets like the MiG-21 and Soko J-22 Orao, would be dispersed from the main base to smaller, less conspicuous airfields like this one to protect them from a first strike. The airfield consisted of a long, prepared grass or gravel runway and was used for military training and exercises. The ICAO code 'AL-0002' is not an official designation from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO); it likely originates from unofficial or user-generated databases. Official ICAO codes are not assigned to Kosovo, and the 'AL' prefix is designated for Albania.
There are no known official plans or credible prospects for reopening the site as an airport. Its proximity to the fully operational Pristina International Airport 'Adem Jashari' (BKPR / PRN), located just 10 km to the southeast, makes its reactivation for commercial or significant military aviation economically and logistically unviable. The site would require a complete reconstruction and massive investment to meet modern aviation standards, for which there is no apparent demand.
