PAL Airlines

Provincial Airlines, operating under the brand PAL Airlines (ICAO: PVL), is a Canadian regional carrier headquartered in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The airline was established in August 1974 by Tom Collingwood as Provincial Airlines Limited, initially functioning as a flight training school and charter operator. It expanded into scheduled services in the early 1980s. In June 2016, the company underwent a significant rebranding to PAL Airlines, adopting a new livery and logo. The PAL Group of Companies was acquired by Exchange Income Corporation (EIC) in 2015.

PAL Airlines maintains its primary operational hub and headquarters at St. John's International Airport (YYT) in Newfoundland and Labrador. Additional key operational bases include Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), Goose Bay Airport (YYR) (particularly for its subsidiary Air Borealis), and Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL). The airline's fleet primarily consists of De Havilland Canada Dash 8 turboprops, including Dash 8-400s (76 seats each), Dash 8-300s, and Dash 8-100s, alongside Twin Otter aircraft for shorter routes and cargo. Historically, it has also operated aircraft such as the Piper Navajo, Britten-Norman Islander, Fairchild Metroliner, Beech 1900D, and Saab 340.

The airline's route network has a strong regional focus, serving approximately 23 domestic destinations across Eastern Canada and Quebec, connecting communities in Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and northern Quebec. Through a 2023 capacity purchase agreement with Air Canada, PAL Airlines has expanded its reach to include regional routes and inaugural U.S. services from Halifax to Boston and Newark starting in 2024. PAL Airlines is not a member of any global airline alliance like Star Alliance, SkyTeam, or Oneworld. However, it has interline agreements with Air Borealis, Air Canada, and WestJet, which facilitate domestic travel and broader network access. A codeshare agreement is specifically in place with WestJet. Additionally, PAL Airlines became an official partner of Aeroplan on March 16, 2023, allowing passengers to earn and redeem Aeroplan points on their flights. The airline offers scheduled passenger flights, charter services, cargo operations, and air ambulance services. All passenger flights feature an all-economy cabin, with fare options including "Basic," "Standard," "Flexible," and "Freedom." Passengers can expect complimentary meals, snacks, magazines, and hot towels on their flights.
