Luxair Airlines (ICAO: LGL) is the flag carrier of Luxembourg, providing essential air links between the Grand Duchy and various international destinations. With its main operational base at Luxembourg Airport (ELLX/Findel), the airline plays a significant role in the country's connectivity and economy.
Luxair, legally Luxair, Société Luxembourgeoise de Navigation Aérienne S.A., has its roots in Luxembourg Airlines, founded in 1948. Luxair itself was established in 1961 to meet the increasing demand for air travel between Luxembourg and other European cities, commencing operations in March 1962 with a flight from Luxembourg to Paris using a Fokker F27 Friendship. Since then, it has evolved into Luxembourg's sole passenger-carrying airline offering regular, non-charter services, headquartered in Munsbach.
The airline operates a modern fleet primarily composed of Boeing 737 family aircraft, including 737-700s, 737-800s, and the newer 737 MAX 8s, alongside De Havilland Canada Dash 8-Q400 turboprops for regional routes. As of October 2023, the fleet numbered 23 aircraft, with an average age that positions it among the youngest in Europe. Luxair also wet-leases Embraer E190LR aircraft and has orders for new Embraer E195-E2 jets, with deliveries starting in late 2025. Its route network encompasses over 90 destinations across Europe, North Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East, offering both scheduled and seasonal charter services. While Luxair is not a member of major global airline alliances like Star Alliance, SkyTeam, or Oneworld, it is a fully integrated partner of the Miles & More frequent flyer program. Luxair offers two main cabin classes: Business Class and Economy Class. Business Class provides enhanced comfort and flexibility, including lounge access, increased baggage allowance, dedicated check-in, fast-lane security access, and a guaranteed free adjacent seat for privacy. Both classes typically receive complimentary in-flight snacks, drinks (including alcoholic options), and sometimes meals, even on shorter flights.
