Fiji Airways, formerly known as Air Pacific, is the flag carrier airline of Fiji, with its origins tracing back to Katafaga Estates Ltd. in 1947. It was officially renamed Fiji Airways in 1951 and was later acquired by Qantas in 1958. In 1971, the airline was rebranded as Air Pacific to reflect a broader regional presence following investments from several South Pacific nations. The company reverted to its original name, Fiji Airways, in June 2013, emphasizing its role as the national airline of Fiji.
The airline's main operational base and primary hub for international flights is Nadi International Airport (NAN), located on the island of Viti Levu. It also utilizes Nausori International Airport near Suva as a secondary hub. Fiji Airways operates an international network serving 27 destinations across 14 countries, with an expanded reach of 108 international destinations through various codeshare agreements. Its routes span across the Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, North America (including the USA and Canada), and Asia. Domestic and regional flights to nearby Pacific islands like Tonga, Samoa, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu are primarily operated by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Fiji Link.
Fiji Airways operates a modern fleet that includes Airbus A350-900s, Airbus A330-200s, Airbus A330-300, Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and Boeing 737-800s. The subsidiary, Fiji Link, utilizes ATR 72-600, ATR 42-600, and de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft for its shorter routes. As of April 1, 2025, Fiji Airways became a full member of the Oneworld Alliance, having previously been a Oneworld Connect partner since 2018. The airline offers both Business Class and Economy Class cabin services, highlighted by its warm Fijian hospitality, and has adopted American Airlines' AAdvantage® loyalty program as its frequent flyer scheme.
