Edelweiss Air (ICAO: EDW) is a Swiss leisure and charter airline, serving as a sister company to Swiss International Air Lines and a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. It operates flights to numerous European and intercontinental destinations from its primary operational base at Zurich Airport (ZRH).
Established on October 19, 1995, by Kuoni Travel and Niklaus Grob, Edelweiss Air began operations with a single McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft. Over the years, the airline expanded its fleet, introducing Airbus A320s in 1998 and Airbus A330-200s for long-haul flights in 1999. The airline currently operates a fleet comprising Airbus A320s for short- and medium-haul routes, and Airbus A340-300s for long-haul flights. In 2025, Edelweiss Air is introducing Airbus A350-900s, with three already in service and more planned to replace the A340s by the end of 2026, aiming for enhanced efficiency and comfort.
Edelweiss Air offers a broad route network, flying to over 90 holiday destinations worldwide, encompassing regions such as the Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Northern Europe, North and South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Indian Ocean, with a strong focus on leisure travel. Despite being part of the Lufthansa Group, Edelweiss Air is not a member of the Star Alliance. The airline offers three main cabin classes: Economy Class, Economy Max (providing extra legroom), and Business Class, which features generous lie-flat seats. Passengers generally benefit from inclusive services such as meals, non-alcoholic drinks, and in-flight entertainment.
