International RoutesChina Airlines (ICAO: CAL) is the state-owned flag carrier of the Republic of China (Taiwan), headquartered at CAL Park on the grounds of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). It is one of Taiwan's three major airlines and operates over 1,400 flights weekly to 102 cities across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania.
The airline was established on December 16, 1959, initially focusing on charter flights with a small fleet of two PBY Amphibians. Its first domestic scheduled service began in October 1962, followed by trans-Pacific flights in 1970. China Airlines joined the SkyTeam Alliance on September 28, 2011, expanding its international reach to over 1,000 destinations in 170 countries. The airline also has codeshare agreements with several carriers outside SkyTeam, including Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Qantas Airways, and Japan Airlines.
China Airlines operates a diverse fleet of 83 aircraft, including 65 passenger jets and 18 freighters, with an average age of 9.3 years as of September 30, 2025. Its passenger fleet includes Airbus A350-900s, A330-300s, and A321neos, as well as Boeing 777-300ERs and 737-800s. The widebody aircraft are used for long-haul routes to Europe and North America, while narrowbody A321neos serve high-demand regional routes in Asia. Notable cabin classes include Premium Business Class, Premium Economy Class (featuring a fixed-shell seat with a 39-inch pitch), and Economy Class, all offering in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi services on newer aircraft.
