About Amakusa Airlines

Amakusa Airlines (ICAO: AHX) is a Japanese regional airline established on October 12, 1998, and commenced operations on March 23, 2000. It is based in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, with its main hub at Amakusa Airfield (AXJ) and a focus city at Kumamoto Airport (KMJ). The airline is primarily owned by the municipal government (80% stake) and Japan Airlines.

The airline operates regional services from and to Amakusa, focusing on domestic routes within Japan. As of May 2021, its destinations include Amakusa, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Osaka Itami. Amakusa Airlines currently operates a single ATR 42-600 aircraft, which was the first of its type delivered to Japan in 2015 and is notable for its "dolphin" livery. Previously, it operated a De Havilland Canada Dash 8-100. The airline codeshares with All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines. Amakusa Airlines is not a member of any major airline alliance like Star Alliance, SkyTeam, or Oneworld.

The ATR 42-600 is configured with 48 economy seats in a 2-2 configuration, designed for short flights. While specific cabin classes are not mentioned beyond economy, the airline provides scheduled air transport services and also handles outsourced operations of disaster-prevention helicopters.
