Approximately between 1965 and 1971. The original airfield was still depicted on the 1965 Salt Lake Sectional Chart, but by the time the 1971 topographical map was published, the new airport to the south was shown as the active facility.
The airport was closed due to its replacement by a new, more modern facility. The current Mount Pleasant Municipal Airport (FAA: 43U, ICAO: KMPV) was constructed immediately south of the original site, featuring a paved runway which was a significant upgrade over the original's unpaved surface. This move was typical of post-war airport modernization efforts to improve safety, reliability, and all-weather operational capability.
The site of the former airport is now undeveloped open land, located directly north of the runway of the active Mount Pleasant Municipal Airport. The faint outline of the original north-south runway is still visible in satellite imagery as a dirt track or scar on the landscape. The land appears to be used for agricultural purposes, such as grazing, and effectively serves as a clear zone or buffer for the current airport. There are no remaining buildings, hangars, or other significant infrastructure from the original airfield.
This was the original municipal airport for the city of Mount Pleasant, Utah, established sometime before 1945. It served as a local hub for general aviation, catering to private pilots, agricultural aircraft, and small charter operations. It was listed as an auxiliary airfield on aeronautical charts from the era. The facility consisted of a single, long unpaved (dirt or turf) runway, oriented roughly north-south, with a length of approximately 5,000 feet. It played a vital role in connecting the rural Sanpete Valley to the broader aviation network before it was rendered obsolete by its successor.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the original airfield. Its function was entirely and permanently superseded by the adjacent, fully operational Mount Pleasant Municipal Airport (KMPV). The land is now integrated into the property and safety area of the new airport, making any revival of the old strip redundant, impractical, and unnecessary.
