Approximately 1967. The airport was depicted on a 1964 aeronautical chart but was absent from the 1968 chart. Its closure coincides directly with the opening of the new Tallassee Municipal Airport (FAA LID: 8A1) in August 1967.
Economic obsolescence and redundancy. The opening of the nearby modern, paved, and publicly-owned Tallassee Municipal Airport made the small, private, turf-runway Reeves Airport obsolete. It was likely no longer financially viable to operate a private field when a superior public facility became available.
The site of the former airport is now an open, undeveloped grass field on private property. The distinct, straight outline of the former north-south runway is still clearly visible in satellite imagery. There are no remaining airport buildings, hangars, or infrastructure on the site. The land appears to be fallow or used for minor agricultural purposes.
Reeves Airport was a small, privately-owned general aviation airfield that served the Tallassee community in the mid-20th century. According to the 1962 AOPA Airport Directory, the field was operated by G.B. Reeves and featured a single 2,200-foot unpaved turf runway aligned north/south (Runway 18/36). Its significance was purely local, providing a landing area for private pilots before the city established its own municipal airport. It had no known military connections or major commercial operations.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Reeves Airport. Its function was permanently replaced by the Tallassee Municipal Airport (8A1), which is located just a few miles away and continues to serve the area's general aviation needs. The land is privately owned, and there is no practical or economic reason for it to be re-established as an airfield.
