Approximately between 2005 and 2006. Aeronautical charts from 2004 still depicted the airport as active, but aerial imagery from 2006 shows a large building had been constructed over the northern part of the runway.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The airport was a private field, and the land was sold or repurposed for commercial agricultural use. The construction of a large, permanent building directly on the runway path made continued aviation operations impossible.
The airport is permanently closed and the site has been completely redeveloped. A large commercial warehouse, part of the expanding campus of the agricultural company Beck's Hybrids, now sits on the northern half of the former runway. The surrounding land is used for agricultural and commercial purposes related to the company. While the faint outline of the southern portion of the grass runway is still visible in satellite imagery, it is overgrown and unusable.
Skyridge Airport, which used the FAA identifier 3IN3, was a small, private-use general aviation airfield. Established sometime between 1968 and 1971, it primarily served the needs of its owner and local private pilots. The airport featured a single north/south turf runway (18/36) that was approximately 2,640 feet long. It was a characteristic example of the numerous small, private grass strips that supported personal and recreational flying in rural America during the late 20th century, but it did not host major commercial or military operations.
None. The prospect of reopening Skyridge Airport is zero. The land has been irreversibly redeveloped with large, permanent structures built directly on the former runway, making any future aviation use impossible.
