The airport was closed between 1994 and 1998. It was last depicted as active on the 1994 Chicago Sectional Chart and was officially listed as 'closed' in the 1998 Airport/Facility Directory.
The primary reason for closure was economic pressure driven by suburban expansion. As the town of Brownsburg grew, the land occupied by the airport became significantly more valuable for residential real estate development than for aviation purposes, leading to its sale and redevelopment.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped into a residential housing subdivision named 'Bramblewood'. The main road through the development, Bramblewood Drive, closely follows the alignment of the former runway. No physical traces of the airport, such as hangars or runway pavement, remain.
Bramble Airport was a small, privately-owned general aviation airfield that became operational sometime in the early to mid-1980s. It initially featured a single 2,600-foot unpaved turf runway. By the early 1990s, the runway had been paved and slightly shortened to 2,400 feet. The airport served the local private pilot community, catering to light aircraft like Cessnas and Pipers for recreational flying and personal transport. Its significance was purely local, providing a convenient airfield for the growing suburbs west of Indianapolis before it was overtaken by development.
There are zero prospects for reopening Bramble Airport. The land has been permanently and completely repurposed for residential use, making any return to aviation operations at this location impossible.
