Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 27, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately July 7, 2020. The heliport was decommissioned concurrently with the closure of the old McCall Memorial Hospital.

Reason for Closure

Hospital Relocation. The heliport was an integral part of the McCall Memorial Hospital campus. In July 2020, all hospital operations moved to a newly constructed, modern facility, the St. Luke's McCall Medical Center, located at 1000 St. Luke's Way. The old hospital and its associated heliport (US-11369) were permanently closed as they were no longer needed.

Current Status

The site is no longer a heliport or a hospital. Following the relocation, the old McCall Memorial Hospital building and all associated structures, including the heliport landing area, were demolished (primarily in 2022-2023). The City of McCall acquired the land, and the site has been cleared for redevelopment. Current plans are focused on using the property for community housing and other civic purposes.

Historical Significance

The Mc Call Memorial Hospital Heliport was a vital piece of medical infrastructure for the rural and mountainous region of Valley County. Its primary and sole function was to support medical air transport. It served as the designated landing zone for air ambulance services, such as Air St. Luke's and Life Flight Network, to conduct medical evacuations (medevac) and inter-facility patient transfers. For decades, it enabled the rapid transport of critically ill or injured patients from the remote McCall area, a popular destination for outdoor recreation, to larger, higher-level trauma centers in Boise and other cities. This capability was crucial for improving patient outcomes in time-sensitive emergencies.

Reopening Prospects

There are zero prospects for reopening this heliport. Its function has been entirely and permanently superseded by the new, state-of-the-art heliport (FAA Identifier: 5ID2) at the current St. Luke's McCall Medical Center. The new heliport is better equipped to handle modern air ambulance helicopters and is located at the active medical facility.
