The airport was closed sometime between 1982 and 1994. It was depicted as an active private airfield on the 1982 Seattle Sectional Chart, but a 1994 USGS aerial photo shows the runway being overtaken by residential construction. By the early 2000s, all traces of the airport were gone.
The closure was due to economic factors, specifically the sale and redevelopment of the land for residential use. As the Hayden Lake area grew in popularity, the value of the land for housing development surpassed its value as a private airfield, a common fate for many small general aviation airports in desirable locations.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped into a suburban housing community called 'The Meadows'. The primary road in this development, North Ranchero Drive, was constructed directly on the path of the former runway, perfectly preserving its alignment. There are no physical remnants of the runway, hangars, or any other airport infrastructure.
Ranch Aero Airport was a small, privately owned airfield serving the general aviation community. It featured a single unpaved/turf runway, approximately 2,600 feet long, with a northwest/southeast orientation. Its operations were limited to private, recreational flying for local pilots and landowners. It held no significant commercial or military role and was primarily a local amenity for aviation enthusiasts.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening Ranch Aero Airport. The land has been permanently and densely converted to residential use, with dozens of homes and associated infrastructure built on the site. Reacquiring the land and demolishing the homes to rebuild an airport is physically, legally, and economically infeasible.
