The airport was closed between 1986 and 1993. The last known depiction on an aeronautical chart was in 1986. By the 1993 World Aeronautical Chart, it was no longer listed. A 1995 aerial photograph confirmed its closure, showing a distinct 'X' marking on the runway.
While no single official reason is documented, the closure is consistent with the economic challenges faced by many small, privately-owned general aviation airports during that era. Factors likely included rising operational and insurance costs, the owner's potential retirement or sale of the property, and the presence of the better-equipped, publicly-owned Sigourney Municipal Airport (KSNY) nearby, which made a small turf field less economically viable.
The site of the former Sig-Nor Airport has been completely converted to agricultural land. Modern satellite imagery shows that the area is now an active, cultivated farm field. The faint, straight-line outline of the former north-south runway is still barely discernible within the crops, but all airport infrastructure, such as hangars, markers, and buildings, has been completely removed. The land is privately owned and not accessible to the public.
Sig-Nor Airport, which held the FAA identifier 8C2, was a small but functional general aviation airfield serving the Sigourney community. First established sometime before 1961, it primarily catered to local private pilots, flight training, and agricultural spraying operations. The airport featured a single turf runway (18/36) that was approximately 2,350 feet long. It was a classic example of a rural American airfield, providing essential access for light aircraft in an agricultural region before operations were consolidated at the larger municipal airport.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening Sig-Nor Airport. The land has been fully repurposed for private agricultural use for several decades. Re-establishing an airport would require purchasing the private farmland and a complete, cost-prohibitive reconstruction of all facilities. With the community's aviation needs being met by the active Sigourney Municipal Airport (KSNY), there is no practical or economic incentive to reopen this historic site.
