Approximately between late 2013 and early 2014. Aerial imagery confirms the airport was still intact in January 2013, but by February 2014, the runway had been removed and initial grading for new construction was underway.
The airport was closed due to the sale and redevelopment of the land. The property was acquired as part of a large tract for the development of Pinewood Atlanta Studios (now Trilith Studios) and an adjacent master-planned residential and commercial community. The closure was a direct result of this large-scale urban development project.
The site has been completely transformed. The former runway and airport grounds are now the location of the town of Trilith (previously known as Pinewood Forest). This is a high-density, master-planned community featuring a mix of single-family homes, townhouses, apartments, retail shops, restaurants, and public green spaces. The development is directly integrated with the adjacent Trilith Studios, one of the largest film and television production facilities in the United States, and was designed to support the creative industry.
Adams Airport, which also used the FAA identifier GA34, was a privately owned, public-use general aviation airport. Established sometime before 1971, it primarily served the local community of private pilots in Fayette County. The airport featured a single, unpaved turf runway (Runway 18/36) that was approximately 2,600 feet long. Operations were limited to small, single-engine aircraft for recreational flying and private transport. It held no significant military or commercial role, but was a characteristic example of the small, rural airfields that once dotted the American landscape.
There are zero prospects for reopening Adams Airport. The land has been permanently and completely redeveloped into a high-value residential and commercial community. The physical infrastructure of the airport has been entirely erased, and the current land use is incompatible with any form of aviation activity.
