Circa May 2012
The heliport was closed due to the relocation of the hospital it served. The Newnan-Coweta Medical Center, located at this site, moved its entire operation to a new, state-of-the-art facility, the Piedmont Newnan Hospital, on May 27, 2012. The closure of the old hospital made its associated heliport obsolete.
The site of the former heliport and the entire old hospital complex has been completely demolished. The land at 60 Hospital Road, where the heliport was located, has been cleared and is undergoing redevelopment. The site is being transformed into a mixed-use development project called 'Newnan Views,' which will include apartments, townhomes, and commercial space.
The Newnan Hospital Heliport (US-11300) was a private-use facility dedicated to supporting the Newnan-Coweta Medical Center. Its primary and vital role was to handle medical air transport. Operations consisted of receiving medical evacuation (medevac) helicopters, such as AirLife Georgia, which transported critically ill or injured patients to the hospital's emergency department. It also facilitated inter-facility transfers, allowing patients to be flown to larger, more specialized medical centers in the Atlanta metro area. For decades, it was a crucial piece of the emergency medical services infrastructure for Coweta County and the surrounding region.
There are zero prospects for reopening this heliport. The original infrastructure has been permanently removed, and the land is being repurposed for residential and commercial use. The hospital's helicopter services were successfully transferred to the new Piedmont Newnan Hospital, which operates its own modern, fully functional heliport (FAA LID: 1GA0) at its new location on Poplar Road in Newnan.
