Sometime between 1985 and 1994. The airport was listed in the 1985 Flight Guide but was no longer depicted on the 1994 World Aeronautical Chart.
The specific reason is not officially documented, but the closure was due to economic and practical redundancy. The airport was superseded by the larger, publicly-owned Claxton-Evans County Airport (KCWV), which was activated in December 1970. KCWV offered a longer runway (5,000 ft vs. Hearn's 2,600 ft) and more modern facilities, eventually making the smaller, privately-oriented Hearn Airport obsolete.
The former airport site has been completely redeveloped into the Claxton-Evans County Industrial Park. Several large industrial buildings have been constructed on the property, some directly on the former aircraft parking apron. The original asphalt runway is still partially visible but is in a state of severe disrepair, with significant cracking and vegetation growth. It now functions as an access road within the industrial park and is not usable for any aviation purposes.
Hearn Airport was a small general aviation airport that primarily served the local private aviation community. It was first charted in the mid-1960s as a private field with a 3,000-foot turf runway. Sometime between 1980 and 1982, the runway was paved with asphalt and designated as Runway 18/36 with a length of 2,600 feet. Its operations were limited to light, single-engine aircraft for personal use and potentially some agricultural aviation (crop dusting). It served as the area's main airfield before the larger county airport became the primary aviation hub for the region.
Zero. The land has been permanently repurposed for industrial use with multiple large structures built on the former airfield. There are no plans, discussions, or prospects for reopening it as an airport, as its function has been fully replaced by the nearby Claxton-Evans County Airport.
