The airport was closed sometime between 1977 and 1982. It was last depicted on the 1977 New Orleans Sectional Chart but was no longer present on the 1982 edition of the chart or in the 1982 Flight Guide.
The specific reason for closure is not officially documented. As a small, privately owned airfield with an unpaved runway, it is presumed to have closed for personal or economic reasons by its owner and operator, Frank Vosika. The closure was not the result of military conversion, urban development, or a major accident.
The airport is permanently closed and the site is now private property. The faint, linear outline of the former runway is still visible in satellite imagery, but it is completely overgrown with mature trees and dense vegetation. The land has reverted to an undeveloped, wooded state and is not used for any aviation-related or other identifiable purpose.
Also known as Tri-County Airport, this was a private general aviation airfield active from at least the early 1960s through the late 1970s. It served the local aviation community in the Chipley, Florida area. The airport featured a single unpaved north-south runway (18/36) with a length of 3,000 feet. It catered to private pilots and small aircraft and was never a commercial or military facility.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Having been closed for over four decades, the site is unusable for aviation without extensive clearing and reconstruction. The general aviation needs of the area are currently served by the nearby Chipley Municipal Airport (K1J0), making the reopening of Vosika's Airport highly improbable.
