Infrastructure Replacement and Modernization. The heliport was not closed due to economic issues or an accident, but was intentionally replaced. Good Samaritan Medical Center constructed a new five-story patient tower (the Helen and David S. Mack Pavilion) and built a new, state-of-the-art helipad on its roof. This new facility, with FAA LID 0FL1, replaced the older US-11250 helipad to improve patient transport logistics and accommodate modern medical needs.
The site of the former heliport (US-11250) is a decommissioned rooftop on an existing section of the Good Samaritan Medical Center. The area is no longer used for aviation operations. All helicopter traffic is now directed to the new, active helipad (FAA LID: 0FL1) located at coordinates 26.7252778, -80.0555556, atop the hospital's new patient tower.
The heliport at US-11250 was a critical asset for emergency medical services in Palm Beach County for many years. Its primary function was to serve as a landing zone for medical evacuation (Medevac) and air ambulance helicopters. It facilitated the rapid transfer of critically ill and trauma patients to the hospital's Level I Trauma Center and other specialized care units. Services like the Health Care District of Palm Beach County's 'Trauma Hawk' frequently used the heliport, significantly reducing transport times from remote areas or accident scenes and improving patient outcomes. The helipad was located on a lower-level roof of the main hospital building.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the US-11250 heliport. It has been permanently superseded by the new, more advanced helipad (0FL1). The new facility is a strategic upgrade for the hospital, and the old site is now considered obsolete for its original purpose.
