Approximately between 2000 and 2002. The airport was listed as operational in the 2000 AOPA Airport Directory, but aerial imagery from 2002 shows the runway marked with closed 'X' symbols.
Urban encroachment and economic reasons. The land became significantly more valuable for commercial and residential real estate development due to the rapid suburban growth of north Fort Worth. The airport was sold to developers to build a large mixed-use project.
The former airport site has been completely redeveloped. It is now the location of the 'Presidio Towne Crossing' shopping center, which includes major retailers like Costco, Target, and Best Buy, along with numerous other stores and restaurants. The surrounding area is filled with apartment complexes and residential neighborhoods. There are no visible remnants of the runway, hangars, or any other airport infrastructure.
Saginaw Airport (former FAA Identifier: F04) was a privately-owned, public-use general aviation airport established sometime between 1963 and 1968. It served as a vital hub for the local general aviation community, providing a base for private pilots, flight training, aircraft maintenance, and fuel services. Its single paved runway, 17/35, was initially around 2,200 feet and was later extended to 3,600 feet to accommodate a wider range of small aircraft. The airport acted as a reliever airport for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, alleviating traffic from larger airports like Meacham International and DFW International. It was a classic example of a community airfield that supported recreational flying and business travel before being overtaken by urban sprawl. Note: The ICAO code 'US-11232' is a non-standard identifier from a specific database; its official FAA identifier was F04. It did not have an IATA code.
None. The prospect of reopening is zero. The land has been fully and permanently redeveloped into a high-value, dense commercial and residential area, making any plan to re-establish an airport on the site logistically and economically impossible.
I send them emails when I notice something really strange, like the mix-up with KJUV becoming KXLL.
You know, Paul, if we get a good community organized, we could end up being a source for the FAA. With volunteer contributors, we can mobilize a lot more resources than they can for airport data management.
It's in the FAA data still, but with a remark "(ARPT STATUS) ARPT CLSD PERMLY." You'd think that since the Google map now shows the subdivision that they'd remove it.
Funny, it was still in the December FAA data set.
Thanks for the info, sad as it is. I verified online that the airport is closed, and changed its status. Google maps still shows an on sat photo from before the subdivision.
Is now closed with a subdivision on it, but was a real gem of Ft. Worth while operating.
