The airport was closed sometime between 2002 and 2006. It was listed as operational on aeronautical charts through the 1990s and into the early 2000s. However, aerial imagery from 2006 shows the runway area had been fully converted to agricultural use.
While not officially documented, the closure was almost certainly for economic reasons. This is a common fate for small, privately-owned airfields. The land was likely sold or repurposed by the owner for more profitable agricultural activities. The immediate conversion of the grounds to farmland after closure supports this conclusion. There is no evidence of a major accident, military conversion, or regulatory action forcing the closure.
The site of the former airport has been completely reclaimed and is now used as active agricultural land. The runway, taxiways, and hangars have been removed, and the property has been fully integrated into the surrounding farmland. Satellite imagery shows no visible remnants of the former aviation facility; it is now an open field used for cultivation.
Honeoye Falls Airport (which had the FAA identifier D40) was a small, private general aviation airfield established in the 1970s. It primarily served the local recreational flying community. The facility consisted of a single north-south turf runway, approximately 2,400 feet long, and a small number of T-hangars for aircraft storage. It was a base for local pilots with single-engine aircraft and represented a typical small-town American airfield, but it held no major commercial, military, or nationally recognized historical significance.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the Honeoye Falls Airport. The land is privately owned and has been fundamentally repurposed. Re-establishing an airport on this site would be prohibitively expensive and legally complex, requiring the land to be repurchased and re-permitted for aviation use, which is considered extremely unlikely.
