The airport was closed sometime between 1990 and 1999. It was last depicted on the 1990 Pueblo Sectional Aeronautical Chart and was no longer present on the 1999 World Aeronautical Chart.
The exact reason is not officially documented. However, as Youtsey Airport was a private airfield owned by an individual (William Youtsey), its closure was most likely a private decision. Common reasons for such closures include the owner's retirement from flying, sale of the property, the owner's passing, or the prohibitive cost of maintenance. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed for military conversion, a specific accident, or broader economic reasons.
The site is currently private agricultural land, likely used for ranching or farming. Satellite imagery clearly shows the faint but unmistakable outline of the former north-south runway, which is now overgrown with grass and prairie vegetation. The land is not used for any aviation purposes, and the runway has effectively reverted to pasture. The buildings visible to the east of the former runway appear to be part of the associated farm/ranch residence.
Youtsey Airport (also known as Youtsey Field) was a small, private airfield serving personal aviation needs. It was not a commercial or public-use airport. Its first known appearance on an aeronautical chart was in 1966, where it was listed as a private field with a 3,800-foot unpaved runway. The 1987-88 Colorado Airport Directory provided more detail, describing a single 3,840-foot turf runway designated 17/35. Its operations were limited to the private activities of its owner and any permitted guests, likely involving single-engine propeller aircraft.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Youtsey Airport. The airfield has been officially closed and unmaintained for over two decades. Given that the land has been fully repurposed for agricultural use and the private nature of its original operation, the likelihood of it ever being re-established as an airport is virtually zero.
