Circa 2012-2016. The heliport was decommissioned following the phased closure and relocation of the Northrop Grumman facility it served. This corporate move was announced in 2010 and completed over the subsequent years. Aerial imagery confirms the rooftop helipad markings were removed between 2014 and 2016.
Corporate restructuring and relocation. The heliport was a private asset of the Northrop Grumman Navigation Systems Division. For economic and logistical reasons, the company decided to close its Anaheim facility and consolidate operations into other sites, primarily in Woodland Hills, CA, and Salt Lake City, UT. The heliport was closed as a direct consequence of the plant's closure, as its primary function was to serve that specific site.
The site has been completely redeveloped. After Northrop Grumman vacated the property, it was sold and repurposed into a large, multi-tenant industrial and creative office park known as 'The Interchange'. The original buildings have been modernized, and the specific building that hosted the rooftop helipad is now leased to other commercial tenants. The helipad itself has been physically removed.
The Northrop Anaheim Heliport was a private, rooftop helipad that served a historically significant defense and aerospace facility. The Northrop (and later Northrop Grumman) plant in Anaheim was a crucial center for the research, development, and manufacturing of advanced navigation and guidance systems. It produced critical components, such as inertial navigation systems (INS), for numerous high-profile US military programs, including the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, the F-14 Tomcat fighter jet, submarines, and strategic missile systems. The heliport supported these operations by enabling rapid executive transport and the movement of high-priority personnel related to these vital national defense projects.
None. The heliport is permanently closed with no prospects of reopening. The original operator, Northrop Grumman, has permanently relocated its operations from the site. The property has been fundamentally changed into a multi-tenant commercial park, and the specific infrastructure for the heliport no longer exists. There is no operational need or plan to re-establish a heliport at this location.
